Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?

  Prompt Response:   One time I told my friend that I thought studying before a test would help me get a better grade. My friend asked me, “How do you know?” I explained that whenever I studied and reviewed my notes before a test, I felt more prepared and usually understood the questions better. My evidence was based on my own experience from previous tests. I used this evidence because it showed a connection between studying and feeling more confident during tests. Explaining my evidence was important because simply saying that studying helps does not prove my claim. By explaining how my experiences supported my opinion, my friend could understand why I believed my claim was true.   Prompt Response:  I enjoy hands-on activities the most because I learn better when I can actually do something instead of only reading about it.Hands on activities make class more interesting and help me understand the lesson better.I also like working with classmates during hands on activities because we can share ideas and help each other.Hands on activities allow students to learn by doing and practicing what they are taught.They make me more involved in the lesson rather than just sitting and listening for a long time. Summary:Today in class we kept practicing on doing claims and types of evidence like observations,experiences and readings. Reflection:  Today in class I learned that first we do 5 claims but they don't have to be that specific.The evidence is the most specific.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

 prompt-One thing I will never fully understand is why people change over time. Sometimes someone can be very close to you, but then they start acting differently without explaining why. I think people change because of their experiences, feelings, and the things happening in their lives. Even when someone explains their reasons, I may still not completely understand what they are feeling. This has taught me that I cannot always expect to know what is going on in someone else’s mind. I also learned that people can change in ways that are unexpected. Instead of always looking for an answer, I should accept that some things are difficult to understand.   Prompt Response:  One thing that makes me different from other people is my personality.I am outgoing and I enjoy making people laugh and feel comfortable.I can be a shy person but when I'm with people I'm comfortable with I be laughing at my own jokes.My creativity helps me think of different ideas and solve problems in my own way.I have my own interest and goals that make me unique.Like for example my goal is to travel the world and invest money on companies so that I can make more money and then be a dentist.The main thing that makes me different from others is my personality.   Prompt Response:  The most creative thing I have ever made is a set of custom lash extensions.I started learning how to do lashes because I wanted to create something that showed my skills and creativity.I enjoyed using different lengths and styles to create a look that was unique.I had to be patient and pay attention while working on each lash.at first it was challenging because it was hard to stick the lashes but after practicing every day I become good and confident.The experience showed me that it takes patience even to be creative so it can come out good. Describe a time you felt completely lost.

  Prompt Response:  One time I felt completely lost was on my first day at a new school.I did not know where my classes were,and the hallways were crowded with students.I looked at my schedule several times,but I still couldn't figure out where I was.I started getting nervous because the bell was about to ring and I didn't want to be late.I finally asked one of the students walking and she pointed at the right direction.Even though I felt embarrassed to be lost it made it way easier to ask for help. Summary: Today in class we did a worksheet on identifying claims.We read a passage and identified which claim is for each category and what type is it. Reflection:  I learned how to identity claims in passages.I could use this when im reading something to see what they want to argue about.
